A road permit is required for any construction and related works on City of Courtenay public land that affects roads, sidewalks, trails or parks.
When you need a road permit
You need a road permit if you are:
- Closing a roadway, trail or park for construction.
- Blocking sections of a sidewalk to work on private property.
What you need to apply
Have the following items ready before you apply:
- Traffic Management Plan that follows the 2020 Traffic Management Manual for Work on Roadways (TMM).
- WorkSafe BC clearance letter.
- BC One Call ticket number (if excavation is required).
- Valid City of Courtenay business licence.
- Certificate of insurance with:
- $5 million in liability coverage
- City of Courtenay listed as an additional insured
- 30-day notice of cancellation clause
- Completed and signed road permit application form.
- $100 permit fee paid in full.
If the work zone is within K’ómoks First Nation’s designated areas of high archaeological potential (AOP), you will also need:
- K’ómoks First Nation Cultural Heritage Investigation Permit (CHIPs)
- Provincial Heritage Conservation Act (HCA) permit.
