The City of Courtenay invites applications for the position of "Summer Camp Activity Leaders (1 and 3)”.
Summer Camp Activity Leaders 1 & 3 are responsible for the development and implementation of recreational early years, children and youth day camps. Summer camp programs consist of a variety of both indoor and outdoor activities, including: games, STEAM, cooking, swimming at the outdoor pool, hiking, sports and field trips.
Minimum Requirements
Education Requirements:
- Activity Leader 1
- Completion of grade 9 or equivalent
- Activity Leader 3
- 19 years of age or older
- Diploma/degree or currently enrolled in post-secondary education preferred or equivalent
Occupational Certificates, Licenses, Association Memberships:
Criminal Records Clearance
Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C (or willing to obtain)
- High 5 Principles of Healthy Childhood Development (or willing to obtain)
- Class 4 driver’s license preferred (Activity Leader 3)
Experience:
- Experience leading games, songs, crafts, drama and other recreational activities
- Experience instructing and/or assisting in the instruction of sports programs in a competitive and/or recreation environment (Activity Leader 3)
- Experience with children ages 3-18
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Have a strong commitment to professionalism
- Possess passion and enthusiasm for children and youth and a willingness to learn
- Ability to build healthy relationships with participants and promote positive values and recreational benefits
- Ability to lift 50lbs
- Ability to participate in active recreation programming
- Willingness to swim on a weekly basis
The current hourly wage range for Activity Leader 3 is $25.00 - $31.00 + 12.4% in lieu; The currently hourly wage range for Activity Leader 1 is $20.00 - $22.00 + 12.4% in lieu. There are various full and part-time positions; hours range between 7:45 am and 5:15 pm; Monday to Friday. Ideal start date of June 15 and includes up to 70 hours of training and may include afternoon, evening or weekend workshops. Anticipated end of season is September 4.
