The Let’s Play, Courtenay! project will guide how the City designs and upgrades its playgrounds. It outlines a set of steps to help ensure Courtenay’s playgrounds are designed and upgraded to meet the needs of our community.
City council adopted the Let’s Play, Courtenay! Park Playground Design Standards at the September 11, 2024, Council meeting.
The Park Playground Design Standards (PPDS) are a 2023–2026 Council strategic priority. These standards provide guiding principles and best practices for improving Courtenay's park playgrounds, with a focus on offering a variety of play experiences and making parks more accessible and inclusive. They are based on the vision and goals of the Official Community Plan (OCP, 2022), the Parks and Recreation Master Plan (PRMP, 2019) and input from the community.
As the City moves forward with the PPDS guidelines, it's important to note that playgrounds are part of a larger network that changes as neighbourhoods and the community grow. The City will need to plan carefully, adapt as needed and continue listening to public feedback.
