City facilities closed and road closures for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

The City of Courtenay facilities will be closed on Tuesday, September 30, to observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and reflect on the history and traumatic legacy of the residential school system on survivors, their families and communities.

City facility and office closures

  • City Hall
  • Courtenay Recreation Lewis Centre
  • Courtenay Recreation Florence Filberg Centre
  • The LINC Youth Centre
  • Public Works Yard
  • Courtenay Fire Hall

Emergency services continue:

  • Call 9-1-1 for fire or other emergencies
  • Call 250-334-2947 for Public Works emergencies

Spirit Walk road closures

The Spirit Walk will bring 1,000–1,500 participants from 5th Street and Harmston Avenue to Lewis Park. Expect major traffic disruptions downtown. Please plan ahead, expect delays and use alternate routes during the event.

  • 9 a.m.: 5th Street Bridge closes. 5th Street (Harmston to Comox) and Harmston Avenue (7th to 5th) closed for marshalling.
  • 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Full road closure for the Spirit Walk. Fitzgerald Avenue and Cliffe Avenue closed to through traffic. Streets reopen as the walk passes. 5th Street and the bridge reopen once everyone reaches Lewis Park (around noon).
