The City of Courtenay has been recognized with awards from the Canadian Public Works Association (CPWA) and the Public Works Association of British Columbia (PWABC) for engaging residents with events during National Public Works Week this past May.

The awards were officially announced at the PWABC 2025 Joint Annual Conference and Trade Show, held in Whistler, on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. The awards are for communities with populations between 25,000 and 100,000 and acknowledge Courtenay’s outstanding first-time submission.

This honour emphasizes the City’s proactive approach to holding events for residents during National Public Works Week in May 2025. Events included school tours, student art initiatives, interactive exhibits, equipment demonstrations, and a public open house to highlight the essential services and community contributions of its Operational Services team.

“We’re incredibly proud to receive this recognition,” said Mayor Bob Wells. “Public works are at the heart of our city’s operations, and this award reflects the dedication of our staff who work tirelessly to maintain and improve the infrastructure that supports our daily lives. Their commitment to excellence and service helps to make Courtenay a vibrant and resilient community. We’re grateful for their efforts and for the community’s continued support.”

Courtenay is already looking ahead to next year’s National Public Works Week, scheduled for May 17–23, 2026, and remains committed to celebrating the contributions of its public works team in Operational Services and fostering awareness of their essential work.
