Intersection improvements - 5th Street and Cliffe Avenue

The City of Courtenay invites tenders for C25-166 5th Street and Cliffe Avenue Intersection Improvements. The scope of work will include the following:

Realignment of the existing sidewalk within the southeast quadrant of the 5th Street and Cliffe Avenue intersection, removal of the channelized northbound right-turn lane, traffic signal upgrades and new pavement markings for the northbound and westbound approaches. The work will generally consist of the following:

  • Removals and common excavation.
  • Eradication of existing pavement markings as indicated on drawings.
  • Construction of approximately 32 m of new sidewalk, curb and gutter.
  • Construction of two sidewalk curb ramps complete with tactile warning surface indicators.
  • Installation of a concrete infill strip to tie the new sidewalk into the existing courtyard entrance.
  • Placement of topsoil and surface restoration.
  • Asphalt paving.
  • Installation of new pavement markings.
  • Installation of electrical conduits, four new junction boxes, and four new traffic signals complete with luminaires.

Optional pre-tender site meeting to be held on March 18, 2026, at 2 p.m. local time. The meeting location will be 830 Cliffe Avenue, Courtenay, B.C.
