Courtenay Outdoor Pool

• This is a multi-use shared facility.  The number of lanes available for length swimming will vary based on other activities in the pool such as rentals, drop-in fitness and swimming lessons.
• There are no lockers available at this facility. Patrons are solely responsible for the storage, supervision, and security of their own personal items during their visit. To ensure a safe and clear path for lifeguards and other swimmers, all belongings must be kept strictly within the designated viewing and seating areas on the pool deck. Staff cannot monitor or hold personal items, and the facility is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged property.
• Parking at the Lewis Centre is limited. Please arrive up to 15 minutes early to find a space; overflow parking is available at The LINC Youth Centre across the street or in Lewis Park through the totem pole entrance.
• Sun Safety: Sunscreen, and UV-protective swim clothing is recommended for all outdoor lessons.
• If your child has taken swimming lessons previously, please bring their latest report card to the first lesson.

When you visit the aquatic facilities, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. 

At this facility you must:

• Wear clean and appropriate swimwear
• Take a cleansing shower before entering the pool
• Keep children under the age of 7 within arm's reach of a responsible adult (age 16+) at all times
• Dive only in designated areas
• Report any injuries, concerns, or incidents including pool fouling) to a lifeguard
• Follow all instructions from pool staff

The following are not permitted:

• Entering the pool when ill, or with open sores, bandages, or contagious conditions
• Using the Pool without a supervising lifeguard or instructor present
• Bringing food, gum, or drinks into the pool area (except water in non-glass containers)
• Running, roughhousing, or other unsafe behavior
• Foul language or aggressive conduct
• Use of, or being under the influence of, drugs or alcohol
• Smoking or vaping
• Using tempered glass masks or goggles in the pool area

Staff reserve the right to refuse service or have individuals removed at any time for violating these rules.

Please follow the direction of pool staff in the case of an emergency. Whistles may indicate an emergency in the pool area.

Additional Accessibility Points

• The Outdoor Pool is equipped with designated male and female changerooms. If you require or prefer a gender-neutral changing space, please speak with any member of our aquatics staff. Our team will gladly assist you with bypassing the gendered changerooms to access the gender-neutral family changerooms located on the pool deck.
• Dedicated gender-neutral washrooms are available for all pool patrons at the Lewis Centre.

• Lane Swim: Designed for anyone focused on lap swimming or lap-based movement. Swimmers are typically organized into designated lanes based on their speed or type of movement to help maintain a smooth flow of traffic.
• Open Swim: An unstructured, recreational swim period open to everyone, including families, children, and adults. This time is meant for playing, splashing, socializing, and general water enjoyment rather than focused exercise.
• Aquafit: A structured, instructor-led water aerobics class. It is ideal for individuals looking for a low-impact, high-resistance cardiovascular and strength workout that is gentle on the joints.
• Note on Shared Pool Space: Please be aware that when two different swim sessions are occurring at the same time, limited space may be available for each activity. To safely accommodate both groups, the pool will be divided using lane ropes, and the exact allocation of pool space is handled at the discretion of the aquatic staff.
