Sewage leak incident and information

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is continuing respond to a major sewer leak that occurred on May 26, 2026 near the Comox Marina.

Repairs have been successfully completed, and the sewage leak has been stopped. 

  • Remediation measures are underway.
  • At this time it is safe to resume normal use of toilets, dishwashers, laundry, and other household water related activities.
  • Sampling, testing and modeling are ongoing. As a precaution, the community is advised that the following activities should be avoided within the Comox Harbour and Estuary, including Royston, Gartley Point, Dyke Road, Courtenay Air Park, and Goose Spit until further notice:
    • Swimming
    • Kayaking
    • Paddleboarding
    • Paddling/Splashing
    • Fishing off the dock/breakwater or gathering shellfish
    • Please keep people, children and animals out of the water.
  • Boating and fishing outside the Comox Harbour remains safe. Areas currently not subject to the advisory include: Kye Bay, Point Holmes, Denman Island, Hornby Island, and the shoreline and waters south of Gartley Point
  • Please look for signs at beaches, beach access points, boat ramps, etc., and follow all posted closures and instructions.
  • Drinking water was not impacted and is safe to consume.
