Courtenay’s Canada Day Celebrations will bring two days of free live music to Lewis Park, featuring Ten Souljers at the Night Before Concert on Tuesday, June 30 and J. Plank on Canada Day, Wednesday, July 1.
The Night Before Concert runs from 4–10 p.m. at Lewis Park. The evening begins with Indigenous and multicultural performances, including local dance, music and community programming.
The Sean Grieve Committee opens the evening’s featured music lineup with original classic rock. Led by Sean Grieve on Hammond organ, electric pianos and synthesizers, the band blends rock, gospel, blues, Latin, jazz and a touch of 1960s psychedelia.
Known for powerhouse vocals, polished musicianship and high-energy live shows, Ten Souljers bring the feel of a full-scale celebration to every performance. Their wide-ranging live set is built around strong chemistry, audience connection and a steady rise in energy from the first song to the final note.
“We are incredibly excited to celebrate Canada Day with such an amazing community,” said Ten Souljers. “There's nothing we love more than bringing people together through music, and we can't wait to help create an unforgettable celebration.”
Live music continues Wednesday, July 1 as part of the daytime Canada Day Celebrations at Lewis Park. Easy Street opens the afternoon music program with a warm, jazzy style that spans 1940s standards, current pop favourites and memorable original songs.
J. Plank, also known as Jeff Plankenhorn, will headline the afternoon. A B.C.-based, internationally touring singer-songwriter and master of the lap steel guitar, Plank is known for soulful vocals, rich instrumental work and dynamic live performances. His sound brings together blues, roots, folk and gospel influences.
“Live music is such an important part of bringing people together on Canada Day,” said Courtenay Mayor Bob Wells. “This year’s lineup has a great mix of local talent, community performances and headline acts. I’m looking forward to seeing Lewis Park full of music, energy and people enjoying the celebration together.”
