Locations

Operational Services will soon begin a sewer pipe relining project in the 600 block of McPhee Avenue and the 19th Street, Dogwood Drive, Cedar Crescent and Pine Place neighbourhood. This important maintenance work helps extend the life of our existing sewer system without the noise, dust and months‑long disruption of traditional digging.

What is pipe relining?

Pipe relining, or trenchless pipe rehabilitation utilizes cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) technology that allows crews to recondition aging pipes from the inside, using specialized liner materials inserted through existing access points.

This means:

  • No large-scale digging
  • Minimal construction noise
  • Reduced traffic or access impacts
  • Faster project completion

Most of the work is done underground, helping keep streets, yards and driveways largely untouched.

What you can expect

  • City staff and contractors will be in the neighbourhood over coming weeks to assess the scope of work.
  • Once a contractor has been selected, they will be in contact with residents to co-ordinate access to infrastructure located within the right‑of‑way in the rear of some properties. They will also provide a project schedule which will be communicated with businesses in the area.
  • Once work begins, occasional short‑term parking restrictions or lane closures may occur near access points.
  • You may experience brief periods of sewer service slowdown.
  • Some residents and businesses may notice mild odours during the curing process, but these are temporary and not harmful.

Why this work matters

This effort helps:

  • Improve sewer reliability
  • Reduce the likelihood of pipe failures
  • Extend the life of the sewer system
  • Protect our environment
