The City of Courtenay invites applications for the position of "Aquatic Fitness Instructor”.

Aquafit Instructors are responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging, and safe aquatic fitness classes that meet the needs of participants across a range of ages and abilities.

Minimum Requirements
  • Develop group aquatic fitness plans and demonstrate effective leadership while conducting classes.
  • Provide supervision and clear instructions to participants.
  • Foster an inclusive and welcoming environment during classes.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service and maintain effective communication.
  • Adhere to the City’s guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Inspect equipment regularly and report any issues promptly.
  • BCRPA Aquatic fitness instructor certification or an equivalent certification.
  • Emergency First Aid and CPR-C
  • Criminal Records Check with vulnerable sector
  • Previous experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in customer service, recreation, human/social services or in a leadership role is preferred.
  • Knowledge of current industry standards for safe exercise design, progressive overload, and injury prevention
  • Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with aquatic risk management practices, and emergency response procedure
  • Physical abilities to lift and carry equipment up to 45lbs
  • Teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently and reliably, managing class setup, equipment storage, and administrative tasks with minimal supervision

The current hourly wage range is $30.00 to $40.00 + 12.4% in lieu.  Successful candidates will be required to work varying shifts, including Monday, Wednesday, and Friday – June 1 to June 28 from 8:45 am to 9:30 am; Monday, Wednesday, and Friday – June 29 to August 28 from 12:15 pm am to 1:00 pm.
