Free family fun returns for Courtenay Canada Day Celebrations

Courtenay’s Canada Day Celebrations return June 30 and July 1 with two days of free, family-friendly events in downtown Courtenay and Lewis Park.

The celebrations begin Tuesday, June 30 with the Night Before Concert at Lewis Park. The free evening event runs from 4–10 p.m. and includes community performances, cultural programming, food, vendors and live music.

On Wednesday, July 1, the day starts downtown with the Comox Valley Concert Band performing at 9 a.m. at Randy Wiwchar Plaza, in front of the Sid Williams Theatre. The 5th Street Mile fun run begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Canada Day parade from 10–11:30 a.m. along 5th Street.

The fun continues at Lewis Park from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with free family activities, live entertainment, food trucks, vendors and information booths. Family activities open at 11 a.m., followed by the opening ceremony and singing of O Canada at noon.

The Canada Day cake cutting begins at 12:30 p.m., while quantities last, followed by the popular children’s bike draw from 3–3:30 p.m. Families can also cool off with a free public swim at the Courtenay and District Memorial Outdoor Pool from noon to 5 p.m.

Additional free community activities are also taking place nearby, including the Evergreen Tea Dance at Native Sons Hall and the Courtenay and District Museum open house. Please check their websites for more information.
